Progress your career

We are committed to supporting all staff on their career journey, offering personalised training packages and opportunities for personal and professional development.

For clinical staff there are also many opportunities to develop your skills through bespoke specialty rotations or internal transfers for those who wish to gain experience in a new speciality or further develop their skills.

Investing in the future

We are making significant investments across our hospitals to change and improve the way we deliver care.

The New Royal Liverpool hospital will be opening in late summer 2022 offering state-of-the-art facilties to improve care in our city centre.

We are also making an investment of £52m to enhance the Aintree University Hospital site, bringing improved access and facilities for patients and staff.

At Broadgreen Hospital you'll find elective general, urological and orthopaedic surgery, diagnosis and treatment, together with specialist rehabilitation. The site is leading the way for sustainability, featuring multiple green spaces, therapies gardens and a new outdoor gym for patients and staff.

Staff benefits

All new staff will receive 27 days of annual leave, plus 8 bank holidays.

For staff in post, or applicants with previous NHS service this increases to:

5 – 10 years: 29 plus 8 Bank Holidays

10+ years: 33 plus 8 Bank Holidays

We offer a number of flexible working arrangements which allow our staff to balance work responsibilities with other aspects of their lives. Dependant on service requirements the flexible working practices that are available include career breaks, job share arrangements, term time only contracts, hybrid working (mix of home and office base), flexible hours and zero hours contracts (for further information refer to the Flexible Working Policy).

Staff are encouraged to join the NHS Pension Scheme. They will automatically join the scheme unless they choose to opt out.

The scheme provides a pension and a tax-free lump sum on retirement. The scheme also includes life assurance cover, voluntary early retirement benefits, ill health retirement benefits and redundancy benefits.

All NHS staff are eligible for NHS Discounts from a wide range of goods and services. The website www.nhsdiscounts.com provides more details and staff can apply on line.

We often receive additional local offers for LUHFT staff. In the past our staff have benefited from giveaways, discounts, hair and beauty services, complementary meals and free event tickets.

LUHFT works with Wagestream InstantPay, a charity-backed organisation used by over 1 million people worldwide. The system lets staff track and instantly access their wages whenever they need to, save direct from their salaries, and access financial education.

Established health and wellbeing support is on offer across all of our hospitals. This includes onsite wellbeing hubs, mental health workshops, exercise and movement classes and a dedicated staff psychology service.

Car leasing

The Trust Car Lease Scheme is designed to provide employees and their families with competitively priced and trouble free motoring.

Under the Scheme, you lease a car using our current lease car suppliers, normally for a period of three years. There is no deposit, the costs are fixed for all elements for the duration of the lease and the car will be insured for the employee and up to four named Drivers.

Bikes for Staff Scheme

The Trust runs this scheme intermittently throughout the year and it allows employees to take advantage of the government’s tax free Cycle to Work initiative. This allows for you to obtain the bike of your choice from your employer, through easy monthly pay reductions whilst saving up to 47% on the cost.

Discounted public transport scheme

As part of an agreement with Merseytravel and Merseyrail, we are able to offer staff an annual ticket for the bus and/or train which can be paid monthly rather than upfront in one fee. We will purchase the annual ticket upfront on your behalf and allow you to pay it back monthly, directly deducted from your salary after tax. This will give you 12 months of travel for the price of 10, resulting in a significant saving in comparison to the price of a daily, weekly or monthly ticket.
