Aintree University Hospitals Audiology Department has been shortlisted by the British Academy of Audiology for its Team of the Year Award. This is in recognition of the service they provided to patients during the first national lockdown despite challenges posed by coronavirus.
Between March and June of this year, the department found solutions to safely deliver face-to-face support for patients severely suffering from tinnitus, whilst also running a drop off repair service for hearing aids, and providing deaf awareness training to ward staff to help them communicate with patients due to increased facemask use.
Gaynor Chittick, Head of Audiology Services at Aintree, said: “I am extremely proud of the team for pulling together during a very challenging year. Each and everyone one of them has gone above and beyond to ensure there has been little disruption to patient care. Being shortlisted is a testament to their continued hard work and dedication.”
Aintree’s team face competition from six other organisations. The winner will during the British Academy of Audiology Annual General Meeting tomorow, Thursday, 26 November, 2020.
