Our Rheumatology teams at Aintree and Broadgreen hospitals were chosen by the British Society for Rheumatology to host the prestigious Headstart Fellowship training programme, to share expertise with up and coming rheumatologists.
Five clinical fellows from across the UK attended a three-day course at Aintree where they met members from both hospital teams. They learned how we are a regional specialist centre for rheumatology and one of only three centres nationally to provide services for people with Behçet’s disease, a rare condition which causes inflammation of the blood vessels and tissues. They also heard about our award winning clinics and how both teams are working together to develop innovative services in partnership.
Dr Cristina Estrach, Clinical Director for Rheumatology at Aintree, said: “It is a huge honour for our Trust to host the Headstart Fellowship. It signifies that we are providing a strong model of care to our patients and that our services are held in high regard well beyond our local area.”
