The Aintree Weight Management Service is a specialist Tier 3 weight management service for patients from Sefton and parts of Lancashire that offers a two-year multidisciplinary approach to weight management.

The team includes Consultants, Physiotherapists, Dietitians, a Psychologist and an Occupational Therapist.

If you’re using this service, you will be individually assessed so that the programme can be tailored to meet your needs. The therapy teams are specially trained to address lifestyle changes whilst considering the health problems associated with obesity.

Within the programme, we offer one-to-one and group appointments with dietitians and physiotherapists, along with group programmes combining both elements. In addition, the physiotherapy team offer a walking group and hydrotherapy sessions.

You will receive a six-monthly overview appointment to monitor progress and signpost to other elements of the service or external services, which may include an eating disorders service or sleep clinic. Early in the pathway, if you meet the preliminary criteria, bariatric surgery may also be discussed.

We ensure appropriate patients fully meet the criteria set out by the commissioners before referral, and that you are fully informed about what surgery involves through an education session.

At present we are only able to offer weight loss injections to a very limited number of patients who meet the current NHS criteria for Saxenda.

We hope that we will be able to offer similar medications to a wider range of patients in the future

Please note there is currently no availability of (Semaglutide) Wegovy in the UK and this is unlikely to change for the foreseeable future.
